Assistant Chief Officer
Bernie McCardle is Assistant Chief Officer and is currently responsible for Business Support, Human Resources, Finance and Resources and ICT.
Mr McCardle joined Northumbria Police in May 2008. He has a wealth of experience from both the private and public sector.
Bernie McCardle joined the Chief Officer Team where he delivers the strategic management of human resources, one of the key elements of the Chief Constable's 2020 Vision.
Mr McCardle joined Northumbria Police from Blyth Valley Council, where he was head of HR for the past two years. During that time he was responsible for finalising all the single-status agreements with the trades unions. He was also instrumental in getting the council included in the Times' top 20 list of Best Councils to Work For Top 20.
Mr McCardle has been married for 25 years, and has two daughters.
In his spare time he is a keen golfer, plays table tennis in the Northumbria Premier league and is a table tennis coach at Cramlington Sporting Club.
