Operations Command

The purpose of the NEASU is to provide an air support service to the two consortium police forces of Durham and Northumbria commencing on 1 April 2009. NEASU operates one helicopter at Newcastle Airport. The following services are available:

  • Searches

  • Aerial platform for major incidents/disorder

  • Management of vehicle pursuits

  • Surveillance

  • Aerial imagery

  • Airlifting specialist units and casualties

  • Water related incidents

Planning and Co-ordination
This provides specialist support for Royal/VIP visits and public events, produces emergency plans and co-ordinates exercises. It also co-ordinates resources to support area commands and specialist departments. Planning staff will run the main command room managing large scale events or incidents.

Football Unit
The Football Unit provides the force with support for football games at St James Park and the Stadium of Light. The unit plans and co-ordinates match day operations, collects and disseminates football related intelligence, pursues Football Banning Orders and is involved in the planning operations for international football matches and tournaments.

Business Support
Business Support underpins the work of each section, bringing together management information and budget allocations, which total almost £1.5 million a year. The section also gives secretarial support.
