What we're looking for

We are looking for people with the initiative and willingness to learn new skills and methods for combating crime and violence.

CSOs come from a wide variety of backgrounds, but all share certain attributes. They must, for example:

  • Be confident, level-headed and mature

  • Have experience and confidence in dealing with difficult people and complex situations

  • Be sensitive, but also thick-skinned

  • Have good communication skills

  • Work well as part of a team

  • Have the stamina for long stretches on foot patrol

  • Exhibit excellent communication skills

  • Be patient in dealing with all types of people, some of whom may be drunk or hostile


As a CSO you will be solving problems and making sound decisions every day and:

  • Must be a good communicator, have good interpersonal skills and stay calm under pressure

  • Should be innovative and highly motivated

  • Be reasonably fit to carry out your duties properly - a fitness test forms part of the recruitment process 


All CSOs must be able to speak and write English fluently.
