What is a firearm?
A firearm, for the purposes of the Firearms Act 1968, means a lethal barrelled weapon of any description, from which any shot, bullet or other missile can be discharged.
It includes any prohibited weapon as aforesaid or not and any component part of such a weapon, whether it is such a lethal weapon or not and any component part to such weapon designed or adapted to diminish the noise or flash caused by the firing of the weapon. Examples are: .17, .22 and .223 rifles.
Please note a multi-shot shotgun is classed as a firearm.
What is a shotgun?
A shotgun means a smooth-bore gun which has barrel not less than 24-inches and does not have any barrel with bore exceeding 2 inches in diameter. It either has no magazine or has a non-detachable magazine incapable of holding more than two cartridges and it is not a revolver gun. Examples are: 12 bore, 16 bore and 20 bore.
