How can I report a hate crime?

There are several ways you can report a hate crime, whether you have been a victim, a witness, or you are reporting on behalf of someone else.

Police

When reporting any incidents it is important to provide as much information as possible, such as:

  • Description / name(s) of the offender(s)

  • Details of any witnesses

  • A diary record of any ongoing incidents and previous incidents you have experienced

  • Original copies of any hate mail that has been sent to you

  • Evidence of damage to property, graffiti etc. It is advisable not to clean up before reporting the incident if possible.

Whatever level of information you can provide we would always encourage you to report hate crime. If we don’t know it is happening we can’t provide extra support or police attention to a particular area to try and prevent it.
