How to contact the police

These are the contact details for Northumbria Police:

Dial 999 for an emergency

  • An emergency is for when a crime is happening now

  • Or has just happened and the suspect is still nearby

  • Or a crime is about to happen.

Report a non-emergency incident

If you are the victim or have witnessed any non-emergency incident occurring within the Northumbria Police area, you can use the internet to report non-urgent, less serious crimes.
The system can be used to report details of the following offences:

  • Burglary (non-dwelling)

  • Theft

  • Criminal damage

  • Making off without payment

  • Theft from or damage to motor vehicles.

To report all other crimes or incidents, or for general information and advice:

  • Call: 101

  • Text: 07786 200 814

For the deaf and hard of hearing:

  • Text: 07786 200 815

The non-emergency number 101 should be used to report a crime if you didn’t see who committed it e.g. you have returned to find your room has been burgled and the suspect has left. Or if you want to report something suspicious or if you want some advice.
