During the World Cup a new force wide campaign is running on domestic violence - reminding people the police are taking a tough stance against offenders, while urging victims to come forward and report abuse.
Domestic abuse can include verbal arguments, threats, intimidation, harassment, assault, sexual assault, injury and damage to property. Northumbria Police are working with Cleveland Police and Durham Constabulary to tackle domestic violence and will treat all such incidents seriously.

The number of reported incidents of domestic violence traditionally rises during the World Cup when levels of alcohol consumption increase.
Now the police across the 3 forces are working with partners to highlight the support available for victims and encouraging people to report what is happening so action can be taken. Helplines are being promoted for both victims and offenders.
