Tackling criminal damage in South East Northumberland
Dated: 09 Feb 2010

POLICE are asking for the public's help to stamp out criminal damage.
In recent weeks neighbourhood teams in the South East corner of Northumberland have received a number of reports about mindless acts of criminal damage, including cars being damaged, windows being broken and graffiti.
In response, officers are urging the public to stay vigilant and contact them with any information about who's responsible.
Tackling criminal damage has been a priority for neighbourhood teams over the last year and extra officers have been on patrol in each sector to catch criminals who cause mindless vandalism.
Neighbourhood Policing Teams have also been working closely with residents to identify offenders.
Chief Inspector for South East Northumberland Debbie Ford, said: "We've already seen a reduction in the number of criminal damage offences and an improvement in finding those responsible.
"Scratching a parked car, setting a dustbin on fire or defacing a bus shelter is not a game but a crime.
"We're determined to find those responsible, their actions could lead to people being arrested, cautioned, having their DNA and fingerprints taken and even being sent to prison.
"We simply won't tolerate the mindless behaviour of a few individuals."
Anyone with any information about criminal damage in their area, or with any concerns about crime and disorder, should contact their local Neighbourhood Policing Team on 03456 043 043, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
