Man jailed for life for murder of his partner
Dated: 09 Feb 2010
Kieran Walmsley, 33, of Albion Row, Byker, has been jailed for life with a minimum of 13 years for the murder of his partner Janet Edwards on August 18, 2009.
Northumbria Police Detective Chief Inspector Peter Bent said: "I am very pleased to see that justice has been done in this case.
"This cowardly murder involved Walmsley committing a violent and sustained attack on his partner Janet who would have been unable to protect herself from such an attack.
"I would like to thank the witnesses from the local community who came forward to provide evidence in this case together with my investigation team who worked effectively and professionally to bring this offender to justice.
"Tackling domestic violence is a key priority for Northumbria Police and we are committed to working closely with partner agencies to deal with offenders and support victims."
