Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')(FOIA)
Thank you for your email dated 3 September 2011 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
You asked:
How many members of police staff are currently employed to work as drivers or chauffeurs for the Chief Constable? Please include staff who have full-time or part-time duties in this role.
How much money is spent on providing these drivers (wages etc) for each calendar years 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
What is the make and model of the vehicle provided to the Chief Constable?
In response:
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the HR and Finance Departments of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I have decided to disclose the located information to you in as follows.
- As at September 2011 there are 3 members of civilian staff whose roles include driver duties for the whole Chief Officer Team and not just the Chief Constable. Their role includes other duties as well as driving which I have listed below:-
a) Undertake driving duties for Chief Officers and VIP visitors on 24 hour availability, planning routes to ensure prompt arrival for appointments and safety of passengers.
b) Undertake routine checks of vehicles to ensure roadworthiness reporting major defects to workshops to minimise the risk of incidents through mechanical defects.
c) Clean and valet vehicles.
d) Collect and deliver items of mail within the Headquarters site.
e) Undertake a range of routine minor clerical duties to support administration duties of the Chief Officer Team.
