Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
Thank you for your email dated 10 February 2011 in which you made a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
You asked:
The current number of police officers within your force.
The number of police officer jobs are expected to be cut within the next three years, by 1 April 2014.
The number of community support officers as of 1 January 2010.
The number of community support officers as of 1 January 2011.
How many community support officer jobs are set to be cut by the end of the next financial year.
What number of community support officers are expected be cut by 1 April 2014.
In response:
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Human Resources Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held/in part by Northumbria Police.
I have decided to disclose the located information to you in full as follows.
The current number of Police Officers within Northumbria Police = 4,145.
The number of Police Officer jobs are expected to be cut = 318 up to March 2013, we are unable to confirm numbers beyond 2013 at this stage.
The number of Community Support Officers (CSOs) as of 1 January 2010 = 432.
The number of CSOs as of 1 January 2011 = 432.
No CSO jobs are set to be cut by the end of the next financial year.
We have been informed that funding for CSOs is protected for the next two years - beyond that we cannot say and will depend on a number of factors.
