Provision of information held by Northumbria Police made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the 'Act')
Thank you for your email dated 21 June 2011 in which you provide clarification of a request for access to certain information which may be held by Northumbria Police.
As you may be aware the purpose of the Act is to allow a general right of access to information held by a Public Authority (including the Police), subject to certain limitations and exemptions.
You asked:
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 I request the following information:
How much money has your police force spent in each of the last three years on: i) cars for the personal use of police personnel at rank of superintendent or above ii) drivers for the personal police personnel at rank of superintendent or above
In the last three years what type of cars have been bought for the personal use of police personnel at rank of superintendent or above
Please also include those members of staff (not police officers) that are classed as equivalent of Superintendent or above.
In response:
We have now had the opportunity to fully consider your request and I provide a response for your attention.
Following receipt of your request, searches were conducted with the Finance Department of Northumbria Police. I can confirm that the information you have requested is held by Northumbria Police.
I have decided to disclose the located information to you in full as follows.
- Vehicles provided to ACPO Officers and staff are for operational/business purposes but can be used for personal use.

- The following vehicles types of cars were purchased in the last three financial years for ACPO rank officers for which personal, as well as operational use is allowed.
Only ACPO rank officers and ACO staff have access to Northumbria Police vehicles which allow personal use.
