Appeal after rape in Newcastle

Police investigating a rape on Newcastle Quayside have arrested a man in connection with the incident.

The incident occurred between 9.45pm and 10.30pm on Friday, March 25, when a 25-year-old woman was attacked as she walked along the Close, near to the Quayside bar.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing but police have now arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of rape and he remains in police custody.

Extra patrols are being carried out in the area to speak to local residents and business owners while specialist officers continue to support the 25-year-old victim.

Anyone with any information about the incident should contact police on 101 quoting reference 1204 25/03/16.

Police are appealing for information after receiving a report that a woman was raped in Newcastle.

The incident occurred between 9.45pm and 10.30pm on Friday, March 25, when a 25-year-old woman was attacked on the Quayside.

Officers believe she was walking along the Close, near to the Quayside bar, when she was dragged into an alley and raped.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and extra officers are carrying out patrols in the area and speaking to local residents and business owners.

Specialist officers are supporting the victim and anyone with any information about the attack should contact police.

Officers are especially  keen to speak to anyone who was in the area last night and noticed anything unusual in the area of the attack. They should call 101 quoting reference number 1204 25/03/16 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
