Dated: 15 Sep 2009
POLICE in Washington are urging residents to keep their homes secure.
Over the last couple of weeks a number of burglaries have been reported in the area and homeowners are being reminded to keep windows and doors locked.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Alan Pitchford said: "There have been a number of isolated opportunistic burglaries where thieves have taken advantage of open windows and doors.
"We don't have a significant problem with burglary in Washington but it is important that people secure their properties, even when they are at home to prevent these kind of offences occurring.
"By taking a few simple crime prevention steps householders can ensure they don't fall victim to opportunist thieves.
