Robbery at Spar in Monkseaton

Police are investigating a robbery at Spar in Front Street, Monkseaton, in North Tyneside which happened at 11.44am on Thursday, November 5.
Two men armed with crowbars approached a security guard outside the store who was making a cash delivery, and hit him over the head and stole cash cassettes containing a large but undisclosed amount of cash. The security guard suffered a gash to his head and was taken to North Tyneside District General Hospital by ambulance, his condition is described as stable.
The offenders drove off in a burgundy coloured Ford C-Max vehicle driven by a third man. This vehicle was driven a short distance and abandoned minutes after the robbery in Relton Place, Monkseaton behind the Black Horse Public House.
The offenders then got into a second vehicle and police believe they may have headed towards Eastfield Avenue and possibly onto Earsdon Road.
We have descriptions of the two men at the shop, who both wearing ski-masks:
One man was black with a large build and the second man is described as white and wearing dark clothing both carrying what appear to have been crowbars.
Police are appealing for witnesses. Detective Chief Inspector Mick Paterson said: "If you live in Monkseaton or were simply in this area you may have seen this second vehicle make off. At this time we don't know what make of vehicle it was but if you think you have seen it please call us. We have already had terrific support from local residents in Monkseaton and we are grateful for their help and are keen to hear from anyone with information.
"We are also appealing for anyone who was in the area of the Spar store on Front Street, Monkseaton on Thursday, November 5 between 11.30am and noon who may have seen or heard anything to contact North Tyneside CID on 03456 043 043 ext 63143 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
Police are continuing to carry out enquiries in the area.
