Man assaulted in central Gateshead

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted in the grounds of Windmill Hills nursing home in Gateshead.
At around 8pm on Thursday November 19 the 26-year-old man was walking through the grounds with a friend when they were approached by a group of young men and women.
He was hit over the side of his head with a bottle by a young man in the group who then ran away. The injured man was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment to head injuries and a perforated ear drum.
PC Neilson Stoker of Gateshead Area Command said: "This was a vicious and unprovoked attack which left a young man with a nasty injury to his ear.
"I am appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the attack or have information about it to contact Gateshead Police Station on 03456 043 043, ext. 69191, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
"We are particularly keen to hear from a seen man walking his dog in the area at around the time of the attack who may have seen the assault."
