Ashington shoppers receive crime prevention advice
Dated: 03 Feb 2010

Ashington residents turned out in force to meet police officers and firefighters at a crime prevention and fire safety event in the town last week.
Officers from Ashington Neighbourhood Policing Team joined forces with Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service at the town's ASDA store. Shoppers received invaluable advice from crime prevention advisors and took the opportunity to have a "cuppa with a coppa" to talk about policing issues in their area.
They also met representatives from the Northumberland fire rescue team for fire safety advice.
Northumberland crime prevention advisor Sandra Killeen said: “The event was a great success and gave us an excellent opportunity to speak to the residents of Ashington and for people to raise community issues that affect them.
"We're holding a number of events across the area command over the next few months and would urge local people to come along if they can."
Mike Cannon, Asda regional security manager, said: "We enjoy a close working relationship with the emergency services and hopefully we can continue to work together and host more community events this year.
"Working together we can all help to make a safe and secure environment for our customers and the community in Ashington."
