Man charged with car thefts

Dated: 11 Feb 2010

A man has been arrested and charged after a spate of cars were broken into in the Walker area.

It happened over several nights during the past week when cars were attacked and a number of CD players were stolen. The streets affected included Irthing Avenue, Callaly Way, Walker Road and Radstock Walk.

Police investigating the break-ins have arrested and charged a 33-year-old man with two offences of theft from a motor vehicle, with an additional 14 offences to be taken into consideration. He will appear in court on Monday February 15.

Neighbourhood Inspector Terry McNamara said: "Although criminal damage and vehicle crime across the sector is down significantly this year, we recognise that incidents such as this cause great distress, annoyance and financial strain on those affected.

"It also impacts on the wider community, which is why we're carrying out additional patrols in the affected areas to deter future incidents from happening and reassure the community about the action we're taking.

"We're pleased someone has been arrested an charged with these offences."
