Schoolgirl has iPod stolen
Dated: 28 Apr 2010
Police are appealing for witnesses to a theft in Mendham Close, Gateshead.
At around 8.30am on Monday April 26, a 15-year-old girl was walking to school when she was approached by a youth. He asked her for the time, snatched her iPod and made off.
The offender is described as white, aged around 17 years-old, wearing a hoody and dark tracksuit bottoms.
Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Evans said: "This is the third similar theft over the past few days. We’re appealing for witnesses or for anybody with information about these incidents to contact us.
“Fortunately the young girl wasn’t injured and we would advise people that iPods and other personal effects should be kept out of sight.
“We’re working with local schools to provide advice to pupils and increasing our patrols around school starting and finishing times.”
This latest incident follows two thefts from schoolboys in Gateshead last Thursday, April 22 when an iPod and Blackberry were stolen.
Anyone who recognises the description of this youth or who has any information about these incidents should contact police on 03456 043 043, ext 69191 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers on anonymously on 0800 555 111.
