Operation Iron glides into action
Dated: 17 Sep 2010
A 'smooth' operation is gliding into action once again in North Shields.
Operation Iron is focusing police attention on the Baulkwell Estate and Norham Road areas from September 20 - 26.
Officers from North Shields Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out a raft of initiatives in the area to reduce crime and disorder and are working with partners to improve the area too.
Sergeant Adrian Smiles said: "Officers will also be making joint patrols with Neighbourhood Wardens and will be stopping to speak to local people about any crime or policing concerns they may have.
"It's important that we concentrate our resources on problems that most affect local people and take appropriate action to tackle them."
Officers will also be holding a crime prevention stall at Tesco on Norham Road on Thursday, September 23, from 2pm - 4pm.
Staff from North Tyneside Council will also be involved in removing rubbish to help improve the area during the operation.
Cllr Glynis Barrie, cabinet member for Community Services and Safer Neighbourhoods, said: "We want North Tyneside to have clean, green and safe neighbourhoods.
"Initiatives such as Operation Iron show how we continue to work closely with the police to tackle issues that are of concern to our residents."
