Police made five arrests and seized around £12,000 cash as well as quantities of drugs during a series of linked raids in Newcastle.

The operations took place at seven homes on Thursday, October 28 at addresses in Denton Road, West Road, Gill Street, Stamfordham Road and Springfield Road.

Drugs including cannabis, cocaine and amphetamine were recovered while police also seized around £12,000 in cash from the addresses.

Police are making extensive enquiries into how the cash seized was obtained by the owners.

Superintendent Jo Farrell, Newcastle Area Command, said: "The warrants were executed at the seven connected addresses and were aimed and disrupting those people who we know cause the most harm in the community.

"We always act on the issues raised by the public and tackle the people who cause the greatest concerns. In this case we have made five arrests and seized cash and drugs. Enquiries are ongoing.

"This sort of pro-active activity will continue across Newcastle to target those believed to be involved in crime and disorder at any level to ensure Newcastle remains a safe place to live.

"As always we rely on information from the public to make sure we are targeting the right people in the right areas and would urge anyone with information about those believed to be involved in crime and disorder in their neighbourhood to get in touch with us."
