Vandals damage cars

Dated: 19 Nov 2010

Police are investigating after the paintwork on six cars were damaged by vandals.

It happened between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Thursday November 18 when six cars parked at Abbeyvale Drive in Walker had corrosive liquid squirted on them, causing damage to the paintwork.

Police are carrying out a number of enquiries including doing house to house and exploring any CCTV which may be in the area. They are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.

PC Euan Faulke, from the Byker and Walker Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This is not only a great annoyance and inconvenience for the car owners, but it is also a financial burden.

"It's just a mindless thing to do and we're carrying out a number of enquiries to try to trace the person responsible. Ay witnesses or anyone who saw anything suspicious or knows who is responsible should get in touch as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should contact police on 03456 043 043 for the attention of the Byker and Walker Neighbourhood Policing Team, or alternatively independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
