Garden bench stolen in Spittal
Dated: 05 Apr 2011
Police are appealing for information after a garden bench was stolen in Spittal.
Between 10pm Friday, April 1, and 10am Saturday, April 2, thieves stole a garden bench from the rear garden of a house in the Highcliffe area.
The bench is made of wood and has cast iron ends and police believe that the seat could have been targeted for the scrap value of the metal ends.
Berwick Neighbourhood Inspector Peter Duguid said: "The public need to be aware that thieves are targeting peoples homes and public buildings for any items that they can lay their hands on and sell on for scrap.
"Metal flashing, sections of roofs, drains and manhole covers, plaques and general house hold items have all been stolen by metal thieves in the area.
"I'd ask that the public stay vigilant, report any vehicles or people in their area who look suspicious or who are taking scrap metal.
"Let us know they are in your neighbourhood and we'll come speak to them and ensure everything is legal."
Anyone with any information into the theft of the garden bench, or anyone who wants to report any crime or suspicious behaviour, is asked to contact police in Berwick on 03456 043 043 ext 69191.
