Petrol station robbery

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery at a petrol station in Newcastle.
It happened at around 8.50pm on Monday, March 28, when a man went into the Total Garage at Hillhead Parkway in Chapel Park, with a silver claw hammer, and demanded the cashier hand over money from the till.
The cashier refused and the man ran off empty handed out of the shop towards the Turnpike pub. The staff member was uninjured.
The offender is described as white, aged between 20 and 23, and around 5ft 4ins to 5ft 6ins tall of proportionate build. He was wearing a black zip-up nylon sports jacket with a small white emblem on the left breast, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers. He also wore a black balaclava.
