Serious assault in Newcastle

Police were called to Dispensary Lane near Blackfriars in Newcastle city centre at 3.34am on Wednesday, February 1, following reports that a man had been found lying injured in the street by passers-by.
Police attended and a 45-year-old man suffering from stab wounds was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital. His condition is described as critical, not at this time believed to be life threatening.
Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the area and have made two arrests. A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to commit grievous bodily harm and a 17-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. Enquiries are continuing.
Police are appealing for witnesses anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
