Charges following delivery driver robbery

Two men have been charged following a robbery outside a South Tyneside shop.

At 11.30am, on Tuesday, January 31, police received a report of a robbery outside Tesco, on Prince Edward Road, South Shields.

Three men approached a driver making a delivery to the store. He was held by the throat while a quantity of cigarettes were stolen.

The delivery driver was shaken but uninjured by the incident.

Following enquiries, four men were arrested.

Daniel Lake, 20, of Landseer Gardens, South Shields has been charged with robbery. He appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Thursday, February 2.

Heltz Ames, 24, of Vine Street, South Shields has also been charged with robbery. He appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates' Court on Friday, February 3.

Two other men arrested, aged 29 and 23, have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Acting Detective Inspector Dave Henderson, from South Tyneside Area Command, said: "Our enquiries into this incident are continuing and I'd urge anyone with information or who witnessed it to come forward."
