Items stolen from two cars

Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft of items from two cars in Gateshead.

The first happened between 6.45pm and 7.15pm on Wednesday, February 1, when someone smashed the window of a Ford Focus parked outside the Methodist Church on Strathmore Road, Rowlands Gill and stole several items including a mobile phone, wallet and coat.

A second theft took place between 7.50pm and 8.35pm on Wednesday. Again someone has smashed the window of a Daewoo Matiz, parked outside The Central on Derwent Street, Chopwell and stole a set of darts.

Acing Inspector Dave Carruthers who leads the Neighbourhood Policing Team covering these areas said: " To avoid the upset and inconvenience of this type of crime, I'd urge motorists to remove valuables from their vehicles, either take them with you or conceal them in the car boot. "
