Cars targeted in Ashington

Dated: 03 Feb 2012

Police are urging motorists in Ashington to remove all valuables and make sure their cars are locked overnight.

Overnight between Wednesday, February 1, and Thursday, February 2, thieves broke into three cars in Hindmarsh Drive, Castle Terrace and Sycamore Street.

They stole a car radio from one of the cars and searched the other vehicles looking for belongings that had been left inside.

Ashington Neighbourhood Inspector Kevin Oates said: "Thieves are operating overnight in the Ashington area, checking cars and looking for vehicles where the owners have left belongings inside. We need motorists to help us stop crimes like this.

"Remove all valuables from cars overnight, think about what is visible in your car and where it's parked. Always lock your car when you are leaving it unattended even if just for a few minutes. That's all the time it takes for a thief to strike".

Anyone with any information into the thefts is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191.
