Girl has bag snatched

Dated: 03 Feb 2012

Police are investigating a bag snatch in Newcastle.

It happened at about 6pm on Thursday, February 2, when a 12-year-old girl was walking along Bishop's Road in Benwell.

She was approached from behind by a man on a bike who grabbed her black and pink Gio-Goi bag from her shoulder. She was knocked to the ground and the offender cycled away.

The victim was left shocked and suffered some minor grazing to her hands. The offender is said to be white, aged in his mid 20s, about 5ft 8ins tall of thin build and wearing dark clothing.

Neighbourhood Inspector Leigh McManus said: "This was a cowardly and probably opportunist crime on a young girl who was walking along the street. I'd urge anyone with information about the person responsible to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
