Five arrests following affray

Five people have been arrested following an affray in Sunderland.

At just before 2.55am, on Saturday, February 4, police received a report of men having entered an address on Saint Bedes Terrace.

A 17-year-old girl was assaulted with a metal bar during the incident. She was taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment to a cut to her eye. However, her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Following enquiries, police have arrested five men, aged 20, 19 and three aged 18. All have been bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Alan Williams, from Northumbria Police, said: "Our enquiries into this incident are continuing today and the public should be reassured that we have made arrests.

"I'd urge anyone with information to come forward as they may be able to assist with the investigation."
