Incident at Kenton address
Dated: 07 Feb 2012
At around 12 noon on Monday, February 6, Police received a report of concern for a man believed to be in a distressed state at an address at Apsley Crescent in Kenton, Newcastle.
Ch Insp Steve Barron, Newcastle Area Command, said: "Officers attended the scene and attempted to gain entry to the premises when it was believed the man inside the property was threatening to harm himself.
"During subsequent negotiations there were increasing concerns for the man's life and officers forced entry to the property for the man's own safety. He was arrested and taken to hospital by ambulance to receive treatment.
"Our main priority was to ensure the safety of the man inside the address and to bring this incident to a peaceful conclusion.
"I'd like to thank local residents in the area for their patience as we dealt with this incident."
