Air weapons seized

Dated: 07 Feb 2012

At 3.30pm on Monday, February 6, police received information about men discharging air weapons in a quarry area at Lizard Lane, South Shields.

They left the area in a car. Officers attended, including the force helicopter, and the vehicle was stopped at Prince Edward Road.

Three air weapons were seized and made safe, while three men aged in their 20s were cautioned for discharging an air weapon in a public place.

Insp Dave Hudson said: "No members of the public were ever in any danger as the men were in a quarry area and claimed to have been firing at empty bottles. Officers attended the area quickly and traced the three men involved to ensure the appropriate action was taken. The firearms were seized and the men were cautioned."
