Woman's handbag snatched

Police are appealing for information after a woman had her handbag snatched in Gateshead.

The incident happened at 7pm on Wednesday, February 8,  when a 55-year-old woman was walking along Black Lane, Blaydon Burn, and approached by a man who grabbed her handbag and ran off before getting into a nearby parked car.

He is described as white, about 5ft 8ins tall, and of a stocky build. He was wearing a black woollen hat, dark sports zip-up jacket, dark bottoms and gloves.

He got into an old style white Mondeo-type estate.

Acting Inspector, David Carruthers of Gateshead Area Command, said: "Thankfully the woman wasn't injured but was left extremely shaken by the incident.

"We take incidents of this nature extremely seriously and are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify this offender.

"I would appeal to any witnesses in the area who may have seen this man or the car to come forward.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police."
