Appeal after teenager assaulted

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault on an 18-year-old man in Newcastle.

The incident happened on Strathmore Crescent in the west end between 5pm and 7pm on Monday, February 6. Two men approached the victim and punched him to the face, resulting in a fractured jaw.

At this stage it's believed the assault was racially motivated. The incident was reported to police on Wednesday afternoon, February 8.

Neighbourhood Inspector Leigh McManus said: "I'd like to reassure the community that detectives are carrying out a number of enquiries to try to identify the two offenders involved.

"Anyone with any concerns should contact their local officers. I'd urge any witnesses to this assault or anyone with information about who is responsible to contact police as soon as possible."

Anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
