Nine arrested after disturbance in street

Nine people have been arrested after a disturbance in a North Tyneside street.

At 1.11am on Saturday, February 11, officers were informed of a street fight involving four to five youths happening in Kirkland Walk, Shiremoor. Police attended and found a 21-year-old man with a minor head injury, a 41-year-old man suffering a broken nose and a 50-year-old woman with cuts above her right eye and head.

Officers have arrested nine people aged between 16 and 21 in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.

Extra officers are patrolling the area to provide extra reassurance to local people.

Detective Inspector Jeff Brown of Northumbria Police said: "This incident has happened in the street. Officers took swift and effective action to arrest the suspects and we're increasing patrols in the area to provide extra support to residents."

All nine people arrested, currently remain in custody helping police with their enquiries.
