Witnesses sought following hit and run

Police are appealing for witnesses to a hit and run in Gateshead which left a man with serious injuries.

It happened at about 7pm on  Wednesday February 8 outside the Traveller's Rest pub on Old Durham Road.

A 52-year-old man was crossing the road when he was hit by a car.

The car did not stop at the scene and continued along Old Durham Road in the direction of Gateshead town centre.

The victim suffered 11 fractured ribs, a collapsed lung and a broken ankle. He is currently still in hospital.
