CCTV released after pair assaulted
Dated: 13 Feb 2012
Police have released CCTV images of men they need to speak to after two men were assaulted in Newcastle.
It happened around 2.30am on Sunday, September 25 when men aged 21 and 22 were walking along Northumberland Street in the city centre when they were approached by a group of men.
In what is believed to be an unprovoked assault, one of them started punching the older man. The younger victim intervened and was punched in the face, causing him to fall backwards and hit his head off the floor.
The offenders then made off. The 21-year-old victim attended hospital and received a number of staples for a laceration to the back of his head, while the 22-year-old suffered minor injuries.
Enquiries have been carried out, including a previous appeal for witnesses, and officers have CCTV of men who they want to speak to about the incident.
It's believed the men are from the London area, however, could be living in the north-east.
DC Andy Kelsall said: "The assault was unprovoked and happened at the junction of Northumberland Street and Saville Row. I'd urge anyone with information or anyone who recognises these men to get in touch as soon as possible."
Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
