Police donation to sheltered accommodation
Dated: 13 Feb 2012
Residents living in South Shields sheltered accommodation can once again tune into their favourite programmes following a police donation.
Circle of Tenants Group, on Johnson Street, had been talking to their local Community Support Officer, Steven Joynes, about the television in their day room no longer working.
With the help of CSO Joynes, the group applied for funding through Northumbria Police's Charity Fund to buy a new set.
This was granted and the group are now the proud owners a new television and DVD combi.
CSO Joynes said: "The residents like to meet in the day room to carry out various activities and watch TV which in turn boosts community spirit in the sheltered accommodation.
"Not having a TV was proving to be a big miss to them so I assisted with their application to the Northumbria Police Charities Fund.
"The group are over the moon with their new TV and they can now watch the reminiscence movies that they have been making recently."
The Charities Fund helps individuals, organisations and good causes throughout the Northumbria Police area.
