Metal stolen from building site

Dated: 13 Feb 2012

Witnesses are being asked to come forward after metal was stolen from a South Shields building site.

Between 2.30pm, on Thursday, December 22 and 8am, on Monday, January 9, offenders gained entry to the Taylor Wimpey site on Sea Winnings Way.

They made off with a large amount of copper piping which had been installed in a community building on the site.

Police believe the thieves would have been using a transit van-sized vehicle to transport the metal or would have had to have made several trips to the site.

Officers investigating the incident are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

People can contact police on 101 extension 69191 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
