Man arrested for car theft

A man has been arrested after a car was stolen in the Gosforth area of Newcastle.
It happened between 7pm on Saturday, February 11 and 1.20am on Sunday, February 12, when the Volkswagen car was stolen from Delaval Terrace in Gosforth.
It was later found abandoned at Kinross Drive with the alloy wheels stolen and on fire. Following enquiries police have this morning arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. He is currently in custody.
Police have also increased patrols in the Gosforth area after a spate of car crime.
Overnight on Thursday, February 9 into Friday, February 10 a rear windscreen wiper was snapped off a car parked at Delaval Terrace in Gosforth.
On Friday morning tools were stolen from a van parked at Graham Park Road, and items including a sat nav and wallet were stolen from an insecure van in Rectory Terrace.
Neighbourhood Inspector Julie Rana said: "We've had a few incidents of car crime over the weekend in the Gosforth area and we're increasing patrols as a result of that.
"In one instance, where a car was stolen, a man has been arrested and enquiries continue into the other thefts. Anyone with information is asked to contact us as soon as possible."
