Pedestrian struck by car

Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was struck by a car in Gateshead.

It happened at 9.51pm on Friday, February 17, when police received a report that a 56-year-old man had been struck by a car while crossing the road at Portobello Road in Birtley, opposite the entrance to the car park of the Board Inn pub.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries, which includes broken legs and a laceration to his head.

The road was closed for two hours to allow for investigation to take place.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 for the attention of the Road Safety Unit at Etal Lane Police Station in Newcastle.
