Handbag stolen from church
Dated: 19 Feb 2012
Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman had her handbag stolen in a Northumberland church.
It happened at 10.20am on Saturday, February 18, when the 72-year-old victim was at Our Lady and St Wilfred Church at Waterloo Road in Blyth.
The bag was left unattended for a short while at the pew while the victim went to the altar and when she returned it had been stolen. It had inside an amount of cash.
PC Jen Bushby said: "This is a very unusual crime for this area and we're carrying out enquiries to trace the person responsible. The stolen handbag also has sentimental and irreplaceable photographs inside it and the victim is keen to get these back.
"I'd urge any witnesses, anyone who saw suspicious activity in or around the church, or who has information about who is responsible to get in touch as soon as possible."
Anyone with information should contact police on 101 ext 69191, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
