Man jailed for bus assault
Dated: 22 Feb 2012
A man has been jailed after an assault on a bus in Newcastle.
Ian Bransby, 21, of Thorndale Road in Newcastle, appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court on Thursday, February 16, where he pleaded guilty to assault. He was jailed for 23 weeks for the offence.
The assault happened on the No 1 bus from the city centre, at Whickham View, in September last year, when Bransby assaulted a 52-year-old man resulting in bruising, swelling and cuts to his face.
PC Kelly Hetherington said: "This was a sustained attack which left his victim with injuries to his face and I'm pleased Bransby will serve time in prison for his crime.
"This sort of violent behaviour will not be tolerated in our communities and we'll continue to arrest those responsible and ensure they are put before the courts."
