Children injured in crash

This is an update to a previous message about a crash in Sunderland.

At 9.52am on Wednesday, February 22, police received a report that a motorbike had collided with a woman with a pushchair in the road on the B1286 City Way in Doxford Park, Sunderland.

Police and the ambulance service attended and two children, twins - a boy and a girl both aged 18 months, were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment.

The boy sustained injuries and is recovering at the hospital. The girl has been transferred to the RVI where she remains in a critical condition. The twins' mother, aged 26, was also injured, although not seriously.

The rider of the bike, a man aged 30, was also taken to hospital and received treatment for his injuries.

Police continue to carry out enquiries to establish exactly what happened. The road was closed for three and a half hours to allow for investigation. Officers have informed next of kin and are providing support to family members.
