Arrest after 34-year-old assaulted

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 34-year-old man was assaulted in Newcastle.

It happened at around 8.40pm on Saturday, February 25, near the Spa shop and Planet Pizza, in Bedeburn Foot, in Newbiggin Hall when the man was walking his dog, a white West Highland Terrier. Another dog, a Jack Russell, attacked his dog, as he tried to move the dogs apart the 34-year-old was attacked by a man with the dog. As he tried to defend himself he was attacked by another man.

He suffered facial and ear injuries and received treatment at hospital.

Following enquiries a 37-year-old man was arrested on Sunday night, February 26, and is currently in custody.

Detective Inspector Steve Wouldhave, said: "This incident happened in a well lit area and there were a number of people around at the time who would've seen what happened, we'd urge them to contact police as they may be able to help us identify who is responsible."
