4x4 and car stolen in Gateshead

Police are appealing for information after a Land Rover and a car were stolen in Gateshead.

Between 11:30pm Monday, April 16, and 11:30pm Tuesday, April 17, thieves stole a Land Rover from outside an address in South Parade, Bill Quay.

At 11:30pm on Tuesday, April 17, thieves used the stolen Land Rover to steal a Smart car in September Courtyard, Dunston.

They used the 4x4 to tow the Smart car away from the address before leaving it under the Tyne Bridge.

Officers later found the Land Rover abandoned in Abbotsford Road near the Felling bypass.

Witnesses reported seeing two men acting suspiciously in September Courtyard around the time the Smart Car was stolen.

The first is described as being white, around 6ft 1ins tall and of thin build. He is aged in his early 30s and has a long chiselled face, short dark hair and was wearing a grey jumper and grey bottoms.

The second is white, around 5ft 11ins tall and of stocky build. He has short dark hair and is thought to be in his mid 30s. He was wearing light coloured bottoms and a grey jumper.

Enquiries into the thefts are ongoing and a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of theft. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

At 9:50pm on Wednesday, April 18, a Suzuki Vitara 4x4 was stolen from outside a house in Southend Road in Gateshead. Officers are not ruling out the possibility that this theft is linked.
