Fatal collision in Gateshead

Police are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Gateshead yesterday.

At 9am yesterday morning police were informed of a collision in Princesway on Team Valley Trading Estate between a car and a van.

The collision happened in Princesway North at the junction with Fourth Avenue.

The driver of the van, a 37 year old man, was taken to hospital in a critical condition where he was later pronounced dead.

He has been named as Keith Booth, of King Street, Birtley.

A 41-year-old woman, the driver of the car, was taken to hospital and has since been released.

Sergeant Jason Ryder, of Northumbria Police Road Safety Unit, said: "Mr Booth's family are understandably devastated by this unforeseen loss and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time."
