House fire treated as arson

Emergency services were called to a house fire at an address in Stainton Gardens, Gateshead at 00.54 hours on Saturday, May 5.

The fire was extinguished by the fire service and the house was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Following enquiries carried out at the scene, it has been established that the fire was caused maliciously and the fire is being treated as arson.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
