Man assaulted in Newcastle bar

Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in a bar in Newcastle.
The incident happened at Sammy Jacks at The Gate, in Newcastle at 00.35 hours of Saturday, May 5.
A 19-year-old man was entering the bar when he was approached by two unknown males, one punched him to the floor and the second offender kicked him in the face.
Officers attended and have been making enquiries at the scene and extra uniform patrols are in the area to reassure local people.
The injured man was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where he was treated for a fractured jaw and then discharged from hospital.
Officers have arrested two people, a 22-year-old man and a 17-year-old youth on suspicion of assault, both have been bailed pending further enquiries.
Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in Sammy Jacks or the nearby area at the time of the incident and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
