Cyclist critical after A1 collision

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the A1 near Berwick.

At 7:52am this morning, Tuesday July 3, we received a report that a cyclist had fallen from his bike on a section of the A1 near to Scremeston.

Officers attended and a section of the A1 was closed to allow for the air ambulance to land.

The cyclist, a man aged in his 60s, was flown to the RVI hospital for treatment to a serious head injury.

He is in a critical condition and his injuries are potentially life threatening.

The road was fully reopened at 10:23am.
